Stone guide · Turquoise
The color that gave its name to a color. Turquoise has been worn for thousands of years, and in silver it still looks fresh today.
What it is
Turquoise forms where water carrying copper and aluminium runs through rock in dry regions. Copper gives the blue, and traces of iron push it toward green. Many stones carry a web of darker lines from the host rock, called matrix. The name comes from the French for Turkish stone, because it reached Europe along trade routes through Turkey.
A very old favorite
Turquoise was set into jewelry in ancient Egypt, and it was prized in Persia and by many cultures in the Americas. For many people it stands for protection and good fortune, which is why it often appears in evil eye designs. That is tradition and symbolism, not a medical claim.
Turquoise in our jewelry
We pair turquoise with warm stones such as tiger's eye and with cooler ones such as jasper. The contrast makes the blue-green look even brighter.

Soft and porous: care matters
Turquoise is softer than quartz stones and can absorb oils, creams and sweat over time, which may change its color. A little care keeps it bright.
- Put jewelry on after perfume, lotion and sunscreen.
- Wipe with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth.
- Take it off for sport, showers, swimming and cleaning.
- Do not use ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals.
- Store it separately so harder stones cannot scratch it.
Questions people ask
Is turquoise a real gemstone?
Yes. It is a natural mineral. Color and matrix lines vary from bead to bead.
Can turquoise change color?
It can darken or shift slightly over time as it absorbs oils and moisture, so keep it away from creams and water.
Is turquoise fragile?
It is softer than many beads, so avoid hard knocks. With basic care it lasts well.
Is turquoise for men or women?
Both. We make it from slim 4mm beads to bold statement pieces.
